BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA / KFTA) – On July 21, a seriously injured five-year-old girl escaped from Huntsville to Arkansas Northwest Children’s Hospital; According to the court, her mother was arrested for first-degree child endangerment.
The mother, Amanda Breshelle Gilbert, 27, from Bentonville, is the friend of Skylar Houston. Houston, 29, is the man who was arrested on July 23, 2021 after a nearly seven-hour Fayetteville police stalemate.

On the same day, Gilbert was also arrested according to court records for “endangering the welfare of a 1st degree minor”.
At least two people gave information to the Bentonville Police Department (BPD) Criminal Investigation Department about their concern about a child who, according to an affidavit, had “facial injuries … a shoulder dislocated.”
One person, the child’s grandfather, went to the Bentonville Police Station to speak to an officer about “conducting a welfare check on his five-year-old granddaughter” after speaking briefly with Gilbert and Skylar Houston the previous day and being told that According to the document, the child was with Houston’s aunt in Huntsville.
He said he hadn’t seen his daughter in a while and was worried. According to the document “he [grandfather] believes the man who lives with Amanda, Houston, is abusing her. “He said Gilbert’s friend contacted him on social media,” and forwarded photos of the child showing several serious injuries. “
In early July, the friend and boyfriend visited Gilbert and Houston and found that the child had injuries. The woman managed to take photos “without her” [Amanda/Skylar] notices it ”, it says in the affidavit. She shared the information with the child’s grandfather and also mentioned that it appeared that the child’s shoulder was dislocated.
In the picture, “the child appeared to have severe bruises around both swollen eyes, the whites of the eyes were bloodshot, and it was revealed that her face had been trauma,” the court document said.
Two officers went to Gilbert’s house, but to no avail. They reached her by phone and she told them that a babysitter she hired from Craigslist had caused her daughter’s injuries as a result of a car accident. Gilbert then changed her story, saying her child fell down the stairs with a toolbox.
Houston later told friends [the same ones who visited in early July] that the car accident “didn’t really happen”. He said, “Amanda’s mother’s boyfriend molested the child but didn’t want to talk about it because it would take care of him,” the affidavit reads.
Police contacted Gilbert’s mother, who told them the testimony about her boyfriend was false and that she declined her daughter’s request to lie about the last time she saw the child.
Detective Corporal Jason Beeler of the BPD was informed of the interviews and contacted Gilbert by phone and managed to get her and the child to meet with a Hunstville police officer in the Walmart parking lot. The officers on site sent Det. Beeler photos of the child “with bruises all over the face and neck. Broken blood vessels in both eyes and both eyes were black. It was obvious that the child needed immediate medical treatment that Amanda had not tried to provide for her, ”the court document reads.
The child was immediately examined by officers and they found that the emergency services needed to act. In return, EMS contacted AirEvac to take the child to ACNW in Springdale.
Gilbert was arrested and her cell phone was confiscated by officers. She was taken to the BPD, read her Miranda rights, and agreed to speak to Det. Beeler without a lawyer present. Gilbert shared her story of how the child was injured – with a few additional details. How the babysitter brought the child to her apartment and a man there “hit her in the face with his fists and then kicked her in the body several times,” the report says.
Investigators found that Gilbert and Houston changed their stories to authorities several times. “Throughout the interview, Gilbert denied that she or Houston had ever hit the kid for any reason. She said they disciplined her by squatting as a punishment, ”the affidavit read.
Gilbert’s indictment is set for August 23 in Benton County Circuit Court Division 2 with Judge Brad Karren. She is in custody and is being held on a $ 20,000 bond, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Houston has a “breach of loan terms” hearing on August 13th, a September 1st trial for the Terroristic Act, and a trial on April 1st for its multiple crimes involving drugs and weapons is scheduled for mid-September.

SKYLAR HOUSTON’S DAUGHTER
In October 2019, Houston filed an emergency visit with the Benton County Circuit Court to see his then three-year-old daughter. Houston’s attorney gave seven reasons for the visits, including that Houston is the alleged father of the illegitimate child.
Houston said the respondent “has inappropriately withheld the minor child since about September 1, 2019” and “the respondent is living with her current boyfriend … the respondent allows her boyfriend to physically discipline the minor child”.
An agreed final order was placed in Benton County’s Domestic Relations Division on June 17, 2021. The court ruled that “the mother of the child continues to have primary care, custody and control of the parties’ minor child”.
The court allowed Houston to monitor visits for an hour every two weeks and not be under the influence of drugs during the visit.
