Second-half goals from Braian Galvan and Michael Barrios gave the Rapids three points on the road and gave Dynamo their first home defeat of the season.
The Rapids found themselves on the scoreboard almost immediately. Center-back Lalas Abubakar hit a fifth-minute header from the corner, scoring the Rapids’ fifth standard goal of the season.
Barrios almost doubled the Rapids lead 10 minutes later after being found wide open at the back post, but the Colombian striker headed surprisingly wide. The Dynamo clapped back on their first real attempt in the 24th minute when Maxi Urruti tested Rapids goalkeeper William Yarbrough from distance.
The Dynamo received a lifeline well into stoppage time in the first half. Barrios brought down Houston’s defender Maynor Figueroa in the penalty area and referee Rosendo Mendoza pointed. Fafa Picault stepped up to take the kick and level things up, and calmly pushed himself into the lower left corner of the net.
Houston thought they earned a second penalty early in the second half after Mendoza pointed to the point again. But after a video review, Mendoza found that Urruti was sidelined when setting up.
The Rapids then scored a green second goal by Barrios in the 60th minute, spotted by Mark Anthony Kaye at the far post, who slid the ball home over the six-yard space for Barrios. Yarbrough came out big for the Rapids minutes later, defeating Matias Vera at close range with a stunning close-range save.
The Rapids sealed the game late with a third goal in the 80th minute, this time from Galvan, who hit a left-footed curler in the top corner of the net.
