Seattle had the upper hand at the start and almost took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when Raul Ruidiaz defeated Marko Maric after a great pass but hit the bar.
But Houston began to grow into the game when Memo Rodriguez was grabbed by a diving Stefan Cleveland shortly after the quarter hour. The Dynamo had an even better chance a few minutes later when a long ball to Fafa Picault pulled Cleveland off their line, but ultimately went nowhere.
Seattle then had a few clear chances to take the lead. In Jimmy Medranda’s 21st cross, Fredy Montero found a free-headed header in front of goal, which Maric shot straight into the arms. Medranda scored another perfect cross on Ruidiaz shortly afterwards, but the Peruvian striker struck wide.
But the Sounders prevailed in the 63rd minute when a low cross from Alex Roldan was hit by Kelyn Rowe for the 1-0 match. Ruidiaz eventually added a goal of his own in added time to seal the victory for Seattle.
