Head to head: Real Salt Lake have a record of 11-12-8 against Houston Dynamo FC. The first, a 1-1 draw with a goal from Justen Glad at the Rio Tinto Stadium, and then a 0-0 draw at the BBVA Stadium earlier this month.

Real Salt Lake celebrated their fifth goal of the season against Austin FC last Saturday and the fourth time at Rio Tinto Stadium. One of the team’s five shutouts was against Houston Dynamo FC on July 31, when the team drew 0-0 at BBVA Stadium. Real Salt Lake ranks 10th in the MLS with five failures this year.

Bobby Wood’s goal against Austin FC was the team’s sixth headed goal this season, making it the fifth in the league. The six header goals are also more than the team has scored in a single season since 2018, when RSL scored nine header goals. Four of the header goals were scored by Damir Kreilach, the other two came from Wood and Erik Holt.

Connections: RSL assistant coach Pablo Mastroeni previously held the same position under Dynamo FC head coach Tab Ramos before joining Freddy Juarez and his staff at Real Salt Lake. Similarly, one of Houston’s assistant coaches, Martin Vasquez, led the Real Monarchs at the start of the 2019 USL championship season and has long been a fixture in the RSL Academy’s coaching ranks.

Former RSL homegrown player Corey Baird recently moved to Houston from Los Angeles FC. Baird was previously traded by RSL in the past off-season. During his time in Utah, the forward played 83 games, scored 15 goals and was named MLS Rookie of the Year 2018.

RSL striker Rubio Rubin and defenders Justen Glad and Aaron Herrera each played under Ramos at the FIFA U-20 World Cup while he was head coach of the US U-20 team.
