Anthony Bourdain accredited Houston BBQ restaurant opens new bistro

A popular local barbeque place that Anthony Bourdain puts in the spotlight in his Parts Unknown series is opening another hub in a busy grocery store.
Burns grill – an Acres Home game since 1973 – opened a takeaway bistro in a humble Kroger (14221 E. Sam Houston Pkwy, N.).

The new eatery will open on Saturday, June 3rd at 9:00 am, with opening remarks from Mayor Sylvester Turner and a proclamation of the Burns BBQ Flagship Day.

This new flagship location offers sandwiches, side dishes and family packs to take away or to eat in the store’s seating area. Fans can expect favorites like brisket, links, turkey, ribs, chicken boudin and monster potatoes, as well as mac and cheese and baked beans, according to a press release.

Foodies will remember Bourdain attending Burns BBQ, followed by a slab party with Houston hip-hop artist Slim Thug, reported Eric Sandler of CultureMap in 2016. As a prominent community player, Burns was one of several local eateries that attended Pop in the Kroger stores in the Houston area during the pandemic

When the grocery store Jim’s Super burned down in the area and many people in the area were unable to get easy access to groceries, Burns was on hand to provide food to the metro drivers and Kroger volunteers in the food-insecure area, according to a press release .

The new Humble Kroger Store has a Burns Bistro with a full menu, open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Burns’ partnership with Kroger began in 2019; the company initially sold sauces in-store. Since then, the family company run in Schwarz has been represented in more than 20 Kroger branches in the area.
