Harris County MP shoots home assault suspects in condo complicated in north Houston, authorities say
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County MP shot and killed a suspect for domestic violence early Saturday, authorities said.
At around 3:30 a.m., MPs were dispatched to a residential complex on the 900 block of Cypress Station Drive over a report of a family violence incident.
The reporter, who was injured in the attack, asked for help through an emergency service. The woman told MPs that her boyfriend choked her.
On arrival, MPs tried to arrest the suspect, who did not cooperate, Vice Chairman Edison Toquica said in a press conference. Although MPs tried several times to subjugate the man with a taser, the measure proved ineffective. The suspect hit MPs several times while trying to evade arrest. During the argument, the man hit a female representative in the head and threw her to the ground.
At one point the man rushed into the kitchen, grabbed several knives, and pounced on a deputy who, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, shot the man in the chest.
Rescue workers took the man to a nearby hospital, where he was operated on. At the last check he was in a stable condition, said Toquica.
The man was charged with grievous bodily harm to a family member and grievous bodily harm to a public servant, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was in custody for an unrelated serious assault on a family member and had previously been convicted of assaulting the same female family member.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Murder and Home Affairs Department and the Harris County District Attorney are investigating the incident.
