Jason cho, a native of Houston, and the restaurateur behind it Dak & Bop, has opened the second location in Bayou City Tom N Toms, a Korea-based coffee house franchise. This new outpost is located in 5353 West Alabama and is in the same mall as Hidden Omakase and the upcoming new locations of the Conservatory Food Hall and Burger-chan.
Houston’s first Tom N Toms is on Bellaire Food Street in Chinatown, but the two locations are sole proprietorship with different owners. The Galleria location is only the third in Texas and the ninth in the U.S. (The other locations are in Carrollton, TX, which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth, California and Virginia Metroplex.)

Tom N Toms started in Seoul in 1999 and has since grown to over 500 locations worldwide. Although sometimes referred to as the “Korean version of Starbucks,” the menu offers a much wider variety of drinks and dishes than a typical American coffee house. The selection includes unique coffee and tea variations, including Sweet Potato Latte and Lemon tea. The food is just as interesting, from sweet to Milk bread drizzled with caramel and seasoned with cinnamon – to the hearty – Gently Pretzel bread filled with different fillings like sausage and jalapeño and spicy chicken.

The Galleria location is considered more upscale than the other two locations in Texas and gives it the status of “Tom N Toms Black” and an expanded menu with exclusive dishes such as Kimchi cheese puff pastry, hearty pancakes and bing su (“Snow Ice”). In addition, Cho plans to host pop-ups with local Houston chefs as well as Dak & Bop chefs pairing food with Tom N Toms beverages.
Tom N Toms is designed both as a space for socializing and as a good workplace with “comfortable seating and accessible sockets”.
“When my vision of this place is fully visualized, people will enjoy my view of a truly unique Korean-inspired cafe,” Cho said in a press release.
Tom N Toms Galleria is currently in the soft opening phase. For the official opening on Saturday, February 20, guests can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free special on all drinks. To get the promotional code, follow his Instagram account.
