Man arrested after holding his girlfriend at gunpoint in an residence in north Houston

HOUSTON – A man was arrested overnight after Houston police said he held his girlfriend at gunpoint.

At around 10:00 p.m., Houston Police Department officers were dispatched to a residential complex in Block 16800 of City View Place after a third party caller reported that her friend was being held there against her will. The caller informed the police that the woman’s friend was holding her at gunpoint in her apartment. The woman’s children were also in the apartment.

The woman was able to escape from the apartment before the officers arrived.

“The applicant’s very shrewd survival skills,” said Megan Howard, commander of the Houston Police Department’s Tactical Operations Division.

When the officers arrived, the victim said her boyfriend had held her at gunpoint and was not letting her out of the apartment.

One of the forces located the suspect on a balcony outside the home. The suspect denied being the woman’s boyfriend and went back to the apartment.

According to the victim, the officers assumed that the man was armed with a pistol.

SWAT and a hostage negotiation team were deployed to the site.

Hostage negotiators contacted the suspect and convinced him to surrender. After the man left home, the officers took him into custody without incident and took him to the Harris County Joint Processing Center. The man was charged with grievous bodily harm with a lethal weapon.

According to the investigators, no one was injured in the incident.

The HPD victim service took the woman and her children from the scene and helped them to find safe accommodation overnight.
