SI NFL Crew-By-Crew Predictions: Can Houston Texans Shock?

HOUSTON – The NFL season is back, but where does your team count among the best in the league as you head into 2021?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City and Buffalo Bills made up the last four in the NFL last season.

Are these the same four that should be preferred? If you asked the SI Fan Nation staff, most would be more likely to agree.

Of the SI publishers asked for their opinion, 16 have a rematch between Buffalo and Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game. Fifteen have a rematch between Green Bay and Tampa Bay in the NFC Championship Game.

Three divisions produced a unanimous predicted winner – Kansas City, Green Bay, and Tampa Bay. Buffalo, a media favorite who represents the AFC in the Super Bowl LVI, came in fourth with just one vote.

As for the Super Bowl, the predictions showed only three different AFC teams that appeared in the big game. Buffalo and Kansas City were the consensus favorites, with the Cleveland Browns taking third place. The NFC had six different representatives, as the LA Rams, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay, and Green Bay each received at least one vote.

As for franchises in trouble, every writer had the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions last in the AFC North and NFC North, respectively. One writer held the New York Jets off last place on the AFC East while another held the Houston Texans off last place on the AFC South.

Regarding the AFC, the Texans didn’t get a single vote in first place. They received one vote for third place and 29 votes for fourth place. In return, the Jacksonville Jaguars received 29 votes for third place and one vote for fourth place.

The race for first place fell out in favor of the Tennessee Titans, who finished with 23 votes for first place and five votes for second place. The Colts, much like the Texans and Jaguars, finished with five votes in first place and 23 votes in second place.
